How Covid19 changed our approach to work

Covid19 affected literally every single area of our life. It reached our homes and offices, kindergartens and schools… And our heads and bodies - physical and mental health foremost.

From the very early stages of the pandemic, I’ve heard from so many people in my surroundings reporting that they were experiencing the feeling of working 12 hours a day instead of 8. Being shackled up with your computer and home office desk to stay up-to-date often leads to exhaustion and despair. You can never stop thinking of your job because of one simple reason: everything you do in your daily routine (work, play or have your meal) takes place in the same environment - your home. Ruined work and life balance is a cause of stress and worsened health conditions without a doubt.

Invite nature inside your working area

If you can’t often go outside the home office, invite nature inside. Use more plants, introduce some earthy decor, try to let in as much natural light as possible. Plants are very good to freshen the air in the room. They provide much needed calmness and  are perfect decor with their emerald green colour. Some of the stylish pots for your greenery can be an additional injection of class in your room's interior design. Natural light and plants are the best combination to create a calm cosy situation inside your office.

Avoid clutter inside the home office

“Less is more…” This is the statement you often meet when getting introduced to the modern interior design and furniture trends. Reducing clutter in your workspace is important not only for the visual appearance of your room, but for your well-being as well. Chaos and disorder often leads us to anxiety and stress, especially in our working environment. Getting rid of bulky furniture and simply all the things you do not want or need in the working process is a good idea. Bright spacious look in your home office is a best best friend for your productivity and creativity, so decluttering it is genuinely worth giving a try.

Furniture

Transferring our work from the office to home gave no ease to our physical conditions. Doing everything in/from home means sitting and/or lying during the meaningful part of the day. There are thousands of studies scientifically proving that this kind of lifestyle contains increased risks of heart, blood and spinal diseases.

Arrival of Covid19 significantly increased the need to use more ergonomic approaches while organising working space. Ergonomic home office space implies properly selected furniture above all. Most of the modern desks, computer chairs and other pieces of home office furniture already have ergonomic approaches integrated, but you still need to adjust it to your needs and demands.

Fortunately, there are plenty of options of ergonomic furniture to select from. Though this furniture is more health oriented than its appearance, you may still find the solutions that are good for your physical well-being and fit for your stylish interior at the same time. Different sizes and shaped solid oak desks are perfect examples for this. With their natural earthy colour and wooden surface they are best fit in almost any kind of design. Their sit-stand workstations are a good solution to avoid plenty of health problems caused by prolonged sitting and it is very enjoyable to touch its wooden surface, which brings cosiness and the feeling of being close to nature.
